Community Facilities
The draft site layout has been designed to retain the existing landscaped parkland setting of the site, with footpaths created to provide opportunities for informal recreation and public access.
Fareham Borough Council has had a long standing aspiration to secure the restoration and reuse of the locally listed structures on site, including the Mansion House and Lodge House. They also have priorities to provide a swimming pool in the Western Wards and community facilities including sports pitches, allotments and a cemetery.
The layout of the facilities is for illustrative purposes and the final size and location of these has yet to be decided.
The development of this site presents an important opportunity for the Council to be able to meet its aspirations for additional community facilties within the area.
The HCA and Miller Homes will then transfer the land for the community facilities to Fareham Borough Council. When transferred the Council will become responsible for providing these facilities for the community and managing them in the future.
Discussions are currently being undertaken with the Council over the viability of the wider development proposals on the Lot 2 site to determine who will lay out the sports pitches and pavillion building.
Conclusion
A significant level of work has been involved in preparing these draft proposals, which seek to respond positively to the comments made at the previous public exhibition and interpret Fareham Borough Council’s aspirations for the site set out in the draft SPD. The proposals represent a significant opportunity to secure the reuse and long term future of the locally listed buildings and structures on site, including the Mansion House, as well as the provision of land for community facilities and open space.
